Ah yes, this time of year. As is customary, we are running a wintry version of the Castle map throughout December. You can find presents and get exclusive achievements from this event. I've also added the song "Wizards in Winter" as a sort of theme song for the holidays.

That aside, though, I've worked on a whole new system for handling the beginning of rounds and it is currently live on the server. It's still considered a work in progress and I encourage you to report any issues relating to it. This system removes the need for the AFK Kicker (AFK players are killed instead, I want to further improve this later though) and also adds a pre-round countdown before players spawn into the arena, which enforces a 5 second delay on the Boss spawn to give Normals at least a moment to start moving around without the Boss present. Oh, and you also get motivational messages whenever you spawn, now. Very motivational. Hmm.

Just a concern, how will/if the new afk system will be factored into the scaling of the boss's HP? If 3 out of 10 people are afk, 6 people would have to fight the boss, who then has an abnormal amount of HP, making it harder for the normals to kill. Right now, the only class whos damage scales with playercount is overweight.

This system already deals with that. When the announcement "X is AFK" is made it increments a variable which is deducted from the Boss Health calculation.

Also I want to thank a friend of mine who isn't associated with the community for writing basically endless corny motivational phrases!

Another update today. I've done a bit of tweak to Dark Samus' recharge mechanic. Dark Samus is no longer 100% guaranteed to get a recharge from the recharge tool. Now, at least half of the 'charge pellets' have to hit Dark Samus in order to get a full recharge (Any less will result in an incomplete charge). In addition, other players can actually steal some of the energy for themselves by simply plowing their body through the cloud of pellets (Firebugs and Decker Specialists could potentially benefit from this). This also makes deflection abilities potentially dangerous to Dark Samus when recharging, since pushing away the majority of the pellets can prevent it from recharging enough to use weapons.
